Best Mealime Alternatives in 2026 (After the October 21 Shutdown)
By Daniel · · 8 min read

The short version. Mealime’s shutdown date is October 21, 2026. If you shop at an Albertsons Companies store, Meals Hub is the official successor. If you want the quick-dinner library, the weekly plan and the grocery list in one app, plus a way to save the Mealime recipes you cook, Swoodie is the closest replacement. The rest of the list is for more specific needs.
Mealime did one job very well: pick a few quick dinners, get a clean grocery list, cook. Now that Mealime has a shutdown date (what the notice says and how to save your recipes), the question is which app does that job.
I make Swoodie, so it is first on this list and I am not neutral. Every other app below was checked against its own store listing and pricing page in September 2026, and each section says who is better served there than here.
Quick pick: which Mealime alternative fits you
- Want Mealime’s routine plus calorie tracking, or to pick dinner with a partner: Swoodie.
- Shop at Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco or another Albertsons store: Meals Hub.
- Want a planner, a grocery list and recipe saving from any website, all free: Samsung Food.
- Want dinners picked for you and the list sent to a grocery cart: eMeals.
- Want to keep your own recipes and pay once instead of subscribing: Paprika.
- Get most of your recipes from TikTok or Instagram: ReciMe.

1. Swoodie: the closest all-round replacement
Swoodie covers the main parts of the Mealime routine, some free and some on Premium:
- a library of 8,000+ recipes, free and without an account;
- a meal planner you fill in yourself, also free;
- an AI Meal Planner that builds a 1-, 3- or 7-day plan around your calorie and macro targets, and an AI Shopping List that merges ingredients across recipes and sorts them by store aisle (both Premium).
It also does two things Mealime never did. Swoodie is a calorie tracker: you can log calories by hand, from 87,000+ branded products, or by repeating a past meal, free on every plan. And Swipe Together lets two people swipe on their own phones until they agree on dinner, while Nest puts a household of up to six on one pantry, one plan and one shopping list.
Your Mealime recipes: Mealime recipes have public pages, so you can save the ones you cook into Swoodie’s Recipe Vault from their links. Link import is Premium, and free users can try it with their free AI uses.
Cost: free to start, with 10 AI uses to try. Premium is $9.99/month or $59.99/year, free for 7 days on the yearly plan. Swoodie Lite is $9.99, paid once, and unlocks the app without the AI features.
What it lacks against Mealime: the AI-built weekly plan and the aisle-sorted AI Shopping List are Premium. On the free plan you get the recipe library and a planner you fill in yourself, so if you used Mealime for free, expect to build the week by hand.
Pick something else if you only want a recipe box and never plan the week or count calories.
2. Meals Hub: the official successor, if you shop at Albertsons
Mealime’s recipes move to Meals Hub, a section of the Albertsons Companies store apps and websites (Safeway, Albertsons, Vons, Jewel-Osco, ACME Markets, Shaw’s and others). It is US-only, and your Mealime account data does not carry over.
Pick it over Swoodie if you already shop at one of those stores and want the Mealime recipes you know, plus a weekly menu that turns into a shopping list, right next to your grocery order.
What it lacks against Mealime: it is not a standalone app, and its shopping side only works with Albertsons-owned stores.
Cost: free, including the recipes that used to need Mealime Pro.
3. Samsung Food: the most you get for free
Samsung Food’s free plan covers most of the Mealime routine: 240,000+ recipes, a weekly meal planner that turns into a grocery list, and a list you can share with family and order from 23 grocery retailers. It also saves recipes from any website. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Android and the web.
Pick it over Swoodie if you want the planner, the grocery list and recipe saving from the web all on a free plan, and you don’t need AI to plan the week for you.
What it lacks against Mealime: the personalized, goal-based weekly plans sit behind the paid Food+ plan. The free planner is one you fill in yourself.
Cost: free. Food+ is $6.99/month or $59.99/year on the App Store.
4. eMeals: dinners picked for you, list sent to the store
eMeals sends you 7 new dinner recipes each week, from 15 meal and diet plans. As you pick the week’s meals, it builds a grocery list sorted by where things sit in the store and sends it to Walmart, Instacart, Shipt, AmazonFresh or Kroger (the iOS app also lists Albertsons, Safeway and H-E-B). You can add family recipes and recipes from anywhere on the web. It has iOS and Android apps; the website is for signing up and managing your account.
Pick it over Swoodie if you liked having dinners chosen for you and want the grocery list to land straight in a delivery or pickup order.
What it lacks against Mealime: there is no free tier, only a 14-day trial before the subscription starts, and breakfast and lunch are a separate paid plan.
Cost: the 12-month Dinner Plan is $59.99/year on the App Store, after the 14-day free trial.
5. Paprika: pay once, keep your own recipes
Paprika is a recipe manager. It organizes your recipes, makes meal plans and builds grocery lists that sync across your devices, and its built-in browser saves recipes from anywhere on the web. There are apps for iOS, Android, Mac and Windows, each sold separately, and no web app.
Pick it over Swoodie if you want a recipe box you own, filled from the web, with a meal calendar and grocery list, and would rather pay once than subscribe.
What it lacks against Mealime: no recipe library and no ready-made plans. You bring every recipe yourself, and the free Android version stops at 50 recipes, without cloud sync.
Cost: $4.99 one-time on iPhone and iPad, $29.99 on Mac, with each platform sold separately.
6. ReciMe: for recipes that come from social video
ReciMe imports recipes from Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest, from a photo or screenshot, and from websites through its Chrome extension. The built-in meal planner (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and a smart grocery list, sorted by supermarket aisle or by recipe, are free. It runs on iOS and Android; the web app is a desktop beta without meal plans or grocery lists yet.
Pick it over Swoodie if most of your recipes now come from TikTok or Instagram and you want them in a free planner and grocery list.
What it lacks against Mealime: no ready-made meal plans. It organizes the recipes you import, and the free plan stops at 5 imports a week.
Cost: free with 5 imports a week. The paid plan, with unlimited imports from social media and photos and nutrition for every recipe, is $39.99/year in the US, with a 7-day free trial.
Moving your recipes out of Mealime
Mealime’s notice offers no export, and personal data is deleted at shutdown. The step-by-step for saving the recipes you cook, and rebuilding your week, is in our Mealime shutdown guide.
Pick the app that fits how you cook. If that’s Swoodie, get it on iOS or Google Play — free, no account — or get a free personalized calorie plan in three minutes first.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best alternative to Mealime?
If you shop at an Albertsons Companies store, Meals Hub is the official successor. For everyone else, Swoodie is the closest replacement: a free 8,000+ recipe library, a free meal planner, an AI Meal Planner and an aisle-sorted AI Shopping List (Premium), plus calorie tracking, which Mealime never had. Premium is $9.99/month or $59.99/year, free for 7 days on the yearly plan.
When does Mealime stop working?
Mealime's shutdown date is October 21, 2026. Its recipes move to Meals Hub inside the Albertsons Companies grocery apps, and personal data is deleted when the app shuts down.
Is there a free app like Mealime?
Yes, several. Samsung Food's free plan has a weekly planner, a grocery list you can share with family, and saving recipes from any website. Meals Hub is free if you shop at an Albertsons Companies store. Swoodie is free to start with no account, with the 8,000+ recipe library, your own meal plans, calorie logging and 10 AI uses to try.
Can I move my Mealime recipes to another app?
Mealime offers no export. Its recipes have public pages, though, so you can save the ones you cook into Swoodie's Recipe Vault from their links. Link import is a Premium feature, and free users can try it with their free AI uses.
Is Paprika a good Mealime alternative?
For some people. Paprika is a recipe manager with meal plans, grocery lists and a built-in browser that saves recipes from the web, and it costs $4.99 once on iPhone and iPad ($29.99 on Mac, each platform sold separately). It has no recipe library and no ready-made plans, so you bring every recipe yourself.
